2020 GCCD Cybersecurity Online Seminar

As Operations Committee member (OC) of CAMP alliance (Cybersecurity Alliance for Mutual Progress), the Arab ICT Organization “AICTO” is pleased to invite interested professionals to take part to the Global Cyber Security Center for Development 2020 (GCCD) Cybersecurity seminar. The event will be held online from September 14th to September 25th in line with the “go – digital” and the “non-contact” trends due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Director-General of the Arab ICT Organization meets with the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman in Tunisia

HE. Eng. Mohamed Ben Amor, Director-General of the Arab ICT Organization, received on Friday, July 17, 2020, at the AICTO’s headquarters, HE. Mr. Yahya bin Moosa Al-Bakri, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Tunisia.

This meeting was an occasion for both sides to discuss the ways to enhance joint cooperation between the organization and the Sultanate of Oman.

From his side, HE/Eng. Ben Amor, emphasized on the valuable and continuous support of the Sultanate of Oman to the organization as being amongst the first countries to join AICTO as a Member State.

For his part, the Omani ambassador praised the leading role played by the Arab ICT Organization in the development of the ICT sector in the Arab region.

17th ordinary session of the General Assembly of the Arab ICT Organization.

The 17th ordinary session of the General Assembly of the Arab ICT Organization was held on Wednesday, 15 July 2020, via video conference.

The work of this session started with the election of HE. Mr. Mohamed Fadhel Kraiem _ Minister of Communication Technologies and Digital Transformation of the Republic of Tunisia as President of the General Assembly and HE. Dr. Ishaq Sidr – Minister of Communications and Information Technology of the State of Palestine, Vice-President of the General Assembly.

This meeting witnessed the participation of the following Arab member states: the Republic of Tunisia, the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Republic of Sudan, the Republic of Iraq, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Palestine, the State of Libya, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, and the Republic of Yemen in addition to a representative of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.

During this meeting, the minutes of the 23rd ordinary session of the executive council held one day before, was approved after the presentation made by HE. Mr. Amir Al Bayati _ Chairman of the Executive Council as well as the action plan and budget for the years 2021-2022 following the presentation provided by HE. Eng. Mohamed Ben Amor_Director-General of the Arab ICT Organization.

All participants from GA members praised the organization’s efforts and its future programs to achieve its strategic vision: “Towards a Unified Arab digital society based on creativity and innovation, boosting the Arab-Interregional complementarity and contributing efficiently to the development of the global sustainable digital economy”.

Furthermore, the representative of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States Dr. Ola AL-Badri noticed the important and effective role being played by AICTO to confront the Corona pandemic, she also congratulated its valuable participation in the (49) ordinary session of the High Coordination Committee for Joint Arab Action chaired by His Excellency Secretary-General of the League of Arab States.

23rd ordinary session of the Executive Council of the Arab ICT Organization

The Arab ICT Organization held the 23rd ordinary session of its Executive Council on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, via video conference.

The Executive Council was chaired by His Excellency Mr. Amir Al-Bayati _ Senior Technical Undersecretary at the Ministry of Communications in the Republic of Iraq and witnessed the participation of the following Arab member states: The People’s Democratic of Algeria, the Republic of Iraq, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Palestine, the State of Libya and the Arab Republic of Egypt in addition to a representative of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.

The focus on this meeting’s session was given to the AICTO’s action plan and budget for the years 2021-2022.

Participation of His Excellency Director-General of the Arab ICT Organization in the (49) Ordinary session of the High Coordination Committee for Joint Arab Action chaired by His Excellency Secretary-General of the League of Arab States

HE. Eng. Mohamed ben Amor_ Director-General of the Arab ICT Organization took part in the (49) ordinary session of the High Coordination Committee for Joint Arab Action, held under the chairmanship of His Excellency the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit through video conference on the 13th of July 2020.

In this regard, it is worthy to note that His Excellency the Secretary-General of the LAS has inaugurated the works of the Committee with a speech in which he stressed on the important role played by the specialized Arab organizations, as Arab expertise houses in all fields that affect the security and safety of the Arab citizen, in countering the difficulties and challenges facing Arab economies and societies as a result of the outbreak of the emerging Corona Virus pandemic.

This meeting has represented an opportunity for specialized Arab organizations and joint Arab action institutions, members of the High Coordination Committee for Joint Arab Action, to highlight the procedures, initiatives, and projects implemented in the view to limiting the impact of the Corona pandemic on Arab countries.

During his intervention, HE. Eng. Mohamed Ben Amor has showcased the Arab ICT Organization’s vision on how to face the repercussions of the emerging Coronavirus pandemic on Arab economies and societies, and he also presented a brief presentation emphasizing the most important activities implemented by the organization in the framework of its field of work, especially:

• The launching of an online platform “Arab ICT initiatives” which is a special platform for information and awareness to put the light on the digital and technological initiatives and projects adopted by the Arab countries to confront the Corona pandemic.

• The organization of the 1st Arab Webinar on ICT fighting COVID-19 “Arab initiatives and success stories” on 16 June 2020 in cooperation with the Secretariat General of the League of Arab States and the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia “ESCWA”.

HE. Eng. Ben Amor, has concluded his speech by giving some highlights about the vision of AICTO regarding the best way to manage the post Covid-19 period at the technological level in the Arab region.

The 1st Arab Webinar on: ICT fighting COVID-19 “Arab initiatives and success stories”

Tuesday, 16 June 2020 at 11 am - CAIRO Time.

The Arab Information and Communication Technologies Organization “AICTO” organized in cooperation with the Technical Secretariat of Arab ICT Ministers Council and the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia “ESCWA”, the 1st Arab Webinar on ICT fighting COVID-19 – “Arab initiatives and success stories” on Tuesday, 16 June 2020 at 11 am – CAIRO Time.

High-level speakers from 11 Arab countries took part in this important event, from the following countries: the Republic of Tunisia, the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Sudan, the Republic of Iraq, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Palestine, the Republic of Lebanon, the Arab Republic of Egypt, The Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the Republic of Yemen. In addition to high-level experts from Arab and international organizations and authorities and AICTO’s partners from the public and private sectors, such as the China Satellite Navigation Office CSNO and Huawei Technologies.

HE. Eng. Mohamed ben Amor – Director-General of the Arab ICT Organization has inaugurated the work of this webinar with a welcoming speech, during which he thanked Arab ICT Ministers and AICTO’s partners and speakers for accepting the invitation and for their contribution to enrich and furnish the works of this important forum. During his keynote speech, He highlighted the role played by the organization during the spread of the Coronavirus and notably AICTO’s initiative which aims to shed light on each of the Arab countries’ plans and measures taken to contain the repercussions of the COVID-19 through ICTs.

The next speech was presented by HE. Ambassador Dr. Kamal Hassan Ali – Deputy Secretary-General of the League of the Arab States and Head of the Economic Sector through which he stressed the important role of technology that is no longer a luxury but a necessity, especially in such critical times where teleworking and telehealth have emerged.

This webinar lasted around 5 hours and included, in addition to the opening session:
– A ministerial panel that brought together Arab ICT Ministers and Directors of relevant Arab and International organizations and authorities, through which they showcased the most prominent national and regional plans and strategies that have been implemented to face the COVID-19 pandemic crisis and reduce its effects.

– A second panel that was devoted to shedding the light on the best Arab and international experiences and success stories in using technology to counter this crisis. This panel witnessed the participation of eminent experts who provided an overview of the experiences that were implemented in various Arab countries and the rest of the world.

It is worthy to mention that, the 1st Arab Webinar on “ICT fighting COVID-19” falls within the scope of the steady and continuous Keenness of the Arab ICT Organization to support the Arab countries and all concerned stakeholders in the technological level especially during these critical circumstances that most countries of the world are going through, in resisting and containing the Corona pandemic and the resulting crisis.

“AICTO” is looking forward to concert efforts to better prepare and manage the post-“COVID-19” stage in the technological field. Hence, to develop new strategies in alignment with the next stage requirements by learning lessons and taking advantage of this crisis to be deemed as an opportunity for the development in the future.
Nowadays, the transition to the “All-Digital” in the near future, it’s not anymore a choice, it has become a Must for all Arab countries.
