
The First Regional High-Level Roundtable on Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability was convened on 16 September 2025 at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, under the theme “From Innovation to Impact.” The event was jointly organized by the Arab Information and Communication Technologies Organization (AICTO) and the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Department of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation), within the framework of the follow-up and implementation of the Roadmap towards “Sustainable Digital Transformation 2025–2030” and the Organization’s Strategic Vision 2030, “Building a Smart, Secure, and Sustainable Arab Digital Future.”
In his opening remarks, H.E. Eng. Mohamed Ben Amor, Director General of AICTO, emphasized that artificial intelligence is no longer merely a technical tool, but has become a strategic pillar for achieving sustainable development and a key driver of economic, social, and environmental progress in the Arab region. He underlined the importance of moving from innovative concepts to tangible impact through effective partnerships and clear implementation mechanisms, highlighting pioneering projects and initiatives adopted by AICTO, notably the Arab Artificial Intelligence Incubator Platform, Regional Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Applications, and the Arab Charter of Ethics of Artificial Intelligence. He concluded by calling for intensified efforts and strengthened joint Arab action to translate these initiatives into concrete achievements that will advance digital transformation and sustainable development across the region.
For her part, H.E. Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Nada El-Agizy, Director of the Department of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation at the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, affirmed that artificial intelligence represents a strategic priority for Arab countries as a catalyst for sustainable development and innovation. She stressed the need to build a unified Arab vision to foster digital transformation and harness modern technologies to achieve development objectives, with a particular focus on justice, equality, and equal opportunities. She also drew attention to the Joint Arab Framework for Artificial Intelligence 2025–2030 as an ambitious roadmap for strengthening technological capacities and supporting the digital economy, while underscoring the importance of reinforcing regional and international partnerships to build an Arab ecosystem capable of adapting to global transformations and achieving a more prosperous and sustainable future.
At the conclusion of the Roundtable, it was announced that the Second Regional High-Level Roundtable will be held as part of the “AI Forward Summit 2025,” organized by AICTO under the theme “From the Information Society to the Society of Intelligence.” The event, in cooperation with multiple regional and international partners, will take place in Tunisia from 30 November to 3 December 2025.
