As part of its 2025 action plan, the Arab Information and Communication Technologies Organization (AICTO), in collaboration with the IPv6 Forum, organized a workshop for telecommunications sector regulators focusing on the implementation and adoption of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) transition plans. The event took place in conjunction with the Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF 2025), held in Paris, France, from October 13 to 15, 2025.

In his opening remarks, HE. Eng. Mohamed Ben Amor, AICTO’s Director General, pointed out that this initiative marks another important step in the fruitful journey launched three years ago in partnership with the IPv6 Forum through the establishment of the Arab IPv6 Council. Since its creation, the Council has achieved numerous milestones, including the successful organization of the IPv6 and Future Networks Regional Summit in Cairo last May, hosted by Egypt’s National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), where the Egyptian National IPv6 Strategy was launched. This achievement reflects the region’s growing commitment to embracing future-oriented technologies that underpin digital transformation.

Addressing the participants, H.E. Eng. Mohamed Ben Amor emphasized that the world is now entering an era defined by Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, and data-driven economies, a new reality that offers unprecedented opportunities for innovation, economic growth, and social development. He underlined, however, that none of these ambitions can be achieved without a robust, scalable, and future-ready network infrastructure. He further highlighted that the transition to IPv6 is not merely a technical upgrade but a strategic necessity to secure digital sovereignty, resilience, and competitiveness within the global digital landscape.

The workshop served as a platform for action, reaffirming AICTO’s mission to promote collaboration among Arab and African nations toward building a seamless, interconnected regional digital ecosystem. By uniting policymakers, regulators, operators, and technology leaders, AICTO and the IPv6 Forum are driving forward the vision of a digitally empowered Arab world, ready to harness the full potential of emerging technologies for sustainable development and shared prosperity.

It is worth noting that the Arab Republic of Egypt, represented by the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), has been honored with the Regional Leadership Award in Internet Domain Development by the Arab ICT Organization (AICTO) and the IPv6 Forum. This recognition comes in appreciation of Egypt’s outstanding efforts in implementing and adopting transition plans to the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6).

This award reflects the acknowledgment of the remarkable progress witnessed by Egypt’s telecommunications and information technology sector, and its alignment with the latest global trends in the field of digital infrastructure. It also embodies the regional and international recognition of the significant efforts undertaken by the Egyptian state in recent years.

In this regard, the NTRA launched the National Strategy for Transition to IPv6 last May and successfully completed the first phase of its implementation plan, which led to a notable increase in the number of IPv6 Internet domains in Egypt — a pioneering step at both the Arab and African regional levels.
