4. ICT & Agricultural Development
Areas of action :
4- ICT & Agricultural Developement
Agriculture is facing many obstacles and challenges in the Arab region, namely the impact of climate changes and drought, which has negative effects on food security in the region in spite of the enabling potential it has to ensure the sustainable agricultural development.
Studies have shown that ICT plays a major role in achieving agricultural development and food security through facilitating the access to data and connecting researchers, academicians and farmers.
On this basis, and with regard to Riyadh declaration issued at the Third Arab Economic and Social Development Summit (21-22 January 2013), related to Arab Food security and Arab Water Security, AICTO launched a working group dedicated to ‘ICT and Agriculture development’ working on ‘ICT and Sustainable Agricultural Development in the Arab Region”.
This project aims at consolidating the joint Arab action to ensure Arab food security and including ICT as a major component within the relevant Arab strategies, in addition to the valorization of ‘e-agriculture’ in bridging the rural digital divide.
