The Omani capital, “Muscat”, was selected to be the Arab Digital Capital for the year 2022, during the work of the 25th session of the Arab ICT Ministers Councils held on December 25, 2021, where the Council announced “the Omani capital, Muscat, the Arab digital capital for the year 2022.”

It is worthy to mention that the Sultanate of Oman has made great strides to set up a digital society and create a modern ICT sector for all the economic and social sectors and to respond to the requirements of sustainable development, also many promising national initiatives and projects have been implemented, based on Oman Vision 2020.

Due to the importance of this vital sector, the Sultanate of Oman, within the strategic directions of Oman Vision 2040, has placed communications and information technology among the priorities of its economic and social growth strategies in order to create a diversified and sustainable economy based on technology, knowledge, and innovation, with integrated and competitive frameworks, accommodating industrial revolutions and achieving financial sustainability.

His Excellency the Omani Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali confirmed that Muscat’s victory as the Arab Digital Capital for 2022 reflects the confidence of the Arab countries in the digital and legislative capabilities that the Sultanate have acquired in the ICT sector, the latest of which was the Cabinet’s  adoption of the “National Program for Digital Economy”, which aims to the contribution of the digital economy to the national economy of the Sultanate.

In this context, the Omani Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology will include and organize several regional initiatives in coordination with the Arab ICT Organization and in cooperation with many partners…
