In her statement, HE/Mrs. Khédija Ghariani, insisted on the important benefits resulting from Broadband deployment, and its impact on economic recovery and growth, namely employment deemed as a major priority for the Arab region.
In this respect, the Secretary General mentioned that “AICTO” is currently working on the ‘Arab Youth Empowerment Network’ (AYENet) to help the Arab youth develop their entrepreneurship and innovation skills, and assist them in launching pilot projects in ICT or using ICT.
She also outlined that Broadband is a major enabler for Arab women, enabling them to play an active role in their societies, given the large job opportunities it provides, thus all eviating the gender digital divide.
In this respect, AICTO is currently working on the “Empowering Arab Women through ICT” project aiming at reducing the gender digital divide considered as a development gap, and helping women benefit from ICT opportunities namely through e-work, with a special focus on rural areas.
Furthermore, Broadband, namely m-Broadband enables the development of e-services very important namely in rural areas ( e-health, e-agriculture, etc..).
AICTO launched the “ICT for a sustainable Agricultural Development in the Arab region” project, thus contributing to the achievement of the “Arab Food Security Program”.
Mrs. Khédija concluded that access to Broadband is becoming a universal service that contributes to the improvement of the living conditions of individuals, unless significant investment is provided through an adequate and innovative Public Private Partnership.
